Rathmoy Stables is the training base for the young and successful Simon Callaghan. Rathmoy is a very established training ground and, formerly the home of Simon's father Neville Callaghan. Neville trained many great horses from this base including Danehill Dancer, Magistretti, Hazy View and Excellent Art to name but a few.

So its clear that Rathmoy Stables is a more than adequate establishment to prepare racehorses and Simon's certainly continuing to prove that point to good effect. Simon took over his father's licence in February 2008 and before the turf season even started he had a very impressive record on the all weather, recording 5 winners from 15 runners, of of which never finished out of the first three.

The turf season began in full force, and in May Simon proved he could get a good tune out of an old piano when Finalmente, the six year-old scored, in the Henry II Stakes (Group 2) at Sandown under a canny front running ride from Frankie Dettori, providing SImon with his first Group race winner. Less than a month later SImon proved that it wasn't just older horses that he could train when Shyrl, a two year-old filly by Acclamation was just touched off in her bid to land one of the most prestigious two year-old fillies races, the Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot. Later on in the year Mrs Kipling scored a listed race in Italy and recorded a third in the a Group 3 to add to her black type. In fact by the end of the 2008 season, Simon had trained 33 winners and collected over £250,000 in win and place prize money. He had 256 runners and 50% of them finished in the first four.
