RECESSION PROOF was runner-up in a similar event at Newmarket last time, nine lengths clear of the third, and he went one better with what was ultimately a very easy win. Ridden much more prominently here, he had to come under pressure to get past the leader but cleared right away from the two pole to win eased down. He is on the upgrade.

They didn´t go that quick early here, and the penalised RECESSION PROOF was in the right place at the head of affairs, but he drew clear from the turn into the straight in the manner of a horse with plenty in hand at the weights. The margin of victory rather forces his trainer´s hand now and he will surely be turned out again soon (he currently holds four entries) before the handicapper gets to react.

A fascinating finish between a proven stayer and a progressive type, being markedly stepped up in trip resulted in a dead heat between MERCHANT OF DUBAI and RECESSION PROOF. The latter’s effort was most commendable as he was trying this distance, having been successfully campaigned at 1m 2f this summer. He certainly proved that he gets this trip and the way he stayed on suggests that he’ll actually get further. His effort was probably the most creditable as he came from off the pace, having to be switched right as Merchant Of Dubai and Rugell edged left. Recession Proof is a promising young stayer and one to keep firmly in mind over the coming months |
