Simon Callaghan

Simon Callaghan is a bright, young trainer that took over from his father Neville in early 2008. Simon will oversee operations from his sophisticated training base in the horseracing capital of Newmarket, Suffolk.  He has around 50 horses in his care, and is already attracting many of the country's top owners.

Aged 25, Simon has learnt his trade from some of the most respected horsemen in both the UK and America. He started his career as Pupil Assistant to Richard Hannon at East Everleigh Stables followed by two spells in America, one of which was as assistant to Champion trainer Todd Pletcher. Whilst with Pletcher, Simon worked closely with Breeders’ Cup winner Ashado, along with many more Grade 1 winners. Simon was also responsible for travelling and preparing Pletcher’s Dubai World Cup runners.

On his return to England, Simon started his role as Assistant Trainer to his father, Neville. Among their most notable Group successes were Danehill Dancer (Gr.1), Magistretti (Gr.2, Gr.1pl) and more recently Excellent Art (Gr.2, Gr.1pl), purchased by Simon at the 2005 Doncaster St. Leger Yearling Sale.

His training career started very successfully, in fact between February and the start of the turf season in March, Simon had five winners from fifteen runners and of those fifteen, not one was unplaced.

Simon has an expert team around him and of course his father to ask for advice, should he need it.  He also understands the crucial importance of keeping owners fully informed about their horse’s progress and produces weekly reports. He is absolutely dedicated to the goal of maximising the potential of every horse in his care and is helped by an extensive amount of facilties, just click the facilities tab to find out more.
