Sarah Judge

A chat with Sarah Judge, Secretary

Where abouts were you born and raised?
Barton-on-Humber, North Lincolnshire.

What was your first job in racing?
It was back in 1987, I was Pupil Assistant for Gavin Pritchard Gordon. He trained at Stanley House, here in Newmarket

If you didn’t work in racing, what do you think you would do?
A taster for Bollinger would be good!

Did you ride professionally, back in the day?
Yes, in the days when I was a wafe and not a bottle job, I was apprenticed to Mark Johnston and had about half a dozen rides.  I turned back amateur after a year though as I missed my jump racing.  I had about 60 rides on the flat and 20 over fences in total.

What is your most memorable moment in racing?
Riding a winner at Perth (on a camel – does that count?).

Describe your perfect night in/out?
Those unplanned nights are always the best. Good company and good wine.

Where’s your favourite holiday destination?
Difficult I have been to so many fantastic places. Basically anywhere my mobile phone doesn’t work!

What type of music do you listen to most?
Scissors Sisters. They are fantastic and amazing live.

Name a talent you wish you had
I’d like to be able to pick up different languages easily. I only knew about 3 words after being in Africa 2 months. Although my French is coming along nicely!

What websites do you visit regularly?
Weatherby’s entry site!!!  I must be the only person in the world that doesn’t own a computer.

Favourite all-time horse
Ooh that’s a tricky one, but as I am a jumping girl at heart I would have to say ‘Viking Flagship’ he was such a tough, gutsy horse that never gave up. On the flat it would be ‘Persian Punch’ for all of the above. My favourite that has been trained at Rathmoy Stables would be ‘Delegate’ for his huge personality and none of the above! You had to know him to appreciate him.

What do you do with your spare time?
What's that?

Who are your hero’s both in and out of racing?
In racing, it would have to be A.P McCoy for being totally focused. Out of racing, it would be Mark Todd for being a complete all round horseman.

Finally, your Simon Callaghan trained horse to follow is…
